Rich’s: For Sale

It’s funny how life comes full circle. When I was a fledgling photographer working at Eckerd’s (defunct) Express Photo as a Lab Tech I, I was producing myself for any and all opportunites to be behind the camera. One of those was for a club promoter who wanted “cool shots” of his crew having a good time – at Rich’s. There I was, 1000 ASA film loaded into my Nikormat FTN with a shutter release cable and crappy tripod – creating. I remember a lot of those shots, from the balcony, people in various forms of dance and drama. It was my first paid gig.
Little did I know that 17 years later Rich’s would still be going strong and I would be there to photograph it at it’s prime – and me at my prime!

Yes! You can be the proud owner of Rich’s – Play the music YOU want to hear! No more standing outside behind the velvet rope. You own the velvet rope. You have a velvet rope belt –

  1. Thanks for the flashback. I was the first dj there and designed and built all the entertainment systems for the original opening in 1983. Also, when we rebuilt the club in 1988 (after the disastrous Mecca)I actually lived in there, again designing and building the audio-visual systems plus the built-in seating in all the upstairs peripheral bars. Over the years, I sadly have ended up with no photos of what was one of my most beloved projects, so to see these meant a lot. Thank you for posting them!

  2. Thanks for the story Kerry! I actually have the photos from the early 90s that I took (aforementioned in the blog) that I may dig out and add to this blog!
