Joseph Goldstein House, 1898: 1815 Sealy

I’m not sure what it is, but something about being in an old house makes me feel……..corrected. Like I’m back where I’m supposed to be, back in good ole 1898! Perhaps I was better suited to be photographer in the 20s, with a pin stripe suit and daguerreotypes.  Nah, I’ll just get the vintage suit and continue to create and explore digitally with my Nikon.

Designed by architect George Stowe, contracted by local boot and shoe store owner, Joseph Goldstein built this house after a fire swept the neighborhood and previous structure in 1885. “The Goldstein’s gable-front Victorian house, designed by Stowe, is unusual for being four bays wide, with double doorsin the second bay. The lines of the house are simple, with less dramatic detail and simple trim work. ” – Galveston Historical Foundation

The  owners really kept the house in it’s historical reverance with their fine furnishings and attention to architectural significance.  This survivor of the great storm is not only a sturdy piece of living history, but a uniquely pretty one.

Featured on the Galveston Home Tour, this property is going on the market soon.
